Exploitation of women's skills: Euphrasie Yao solicits private sector (Côte d'Ivoire)

16-05-2017

Euphrasie Yao, Coordinator of the Program, signed a convention with recruitment agencies on May 11, prior to the CoE-Women's Compensation Competence Update (COCOFCI), to be held in June. 2017 to the Unesco-Efpod Chair. She told the press that this was the right thing to do.

What is the aim of this partnership with these recruitment structures?

Article 35 of the Ivorian Constitution states: "The State shall strive to promote equality between men and women in the labor market. The State encourages the promotion of women to responsibilities in public institutions and administrations as well as at the enterprise level ". We believe that we have worked hard enough to establish the legal framework, we have today, a policy "gender" in Cote d 'Ivoire. I believe that we must now move on to concrete actions. After working for a long time with the public sector, we are now in the private sector.

In Côte d'Ivoire, we know the functioning of recruitment agencies, in particular the levying of the interest rate on wages, what will be the particular feature of this partnership with COCOFCI?

It should be noted that what is interesting, women registered at COCOFCI, will have timely offers of employment proposed by the firms with whom we are in partnership. In addition, they will be the first beneficiaries of the training sessions and we will set up joint strategies of efficiencies with our partners in order to allow women still without activities to have a chance to apply for offers from our partners. With this partnership, our database will be better exploited. Promiscuity with these partners will increase the number of women in the private sector. Moreover, we are in partnerships with law firms that are well on the level in their field of intervention.

What is the state of the genre in the private sector?

This is a new area that COCOFCI is exploring. And we are convinced that we should not neglect the private sector in terms of integration. I can assure you that our partners know the power of the woman when she is at the level of a decision-making position. They also told me that more than half of their staff, or even 50% to 60% are women. So at this level, I am reassured.

What do you expect from these different partnerships?

Firstly, the efficient consideration of women in the recruitment and appointments that these structures will make now, secondly, that they accompany the COCOFCI to the improvement and the exploitation of its database.

A call to the women of Côte d'Ivoire?

We are relaunching the call for registration to the competent women and / or want to be competent in Côte d'Ivoire to hurry and come to take the place that is theirs in the decision-making bodies. At the beginning of June, we will make a national assessment of the compendium from 2012 to today. And we can move to the second phase of our program.
