The holder of the UNESCO Chair "Water, Women and Power of Decisions" Euphrasia Kouassi Yao, also Coordinator of the program Compendium of the skills of women of Ivory Coast (COCOFCI) proposed, Wednesday, to Ivorian deputies solutions for the eradication the plague of children without civil status, deploring the fact that these children are VIP (victims of ignorance of their parents).
Ms. Yao made her proposals during a round table that followed the screening of the film "Ghost Children" of Africa which highlights the problem of the birth registration or children without legal document of existence on the continent .

This 52-minute film, made in Senegal, Mali and Burkina Faso, was screened in the Ivorian National Assembly in front of members of the Committee on General and Intentional Affairs chaired by the Honorable Abdoulaye Sidibé.

For Euphrasia Kouassi Yao, a child's declaration of civil status is a "problem that concerns parents, family and community first" because, she insisted, "a child belongs to first to his community ".

Proposed solutions include not only bringing women leaders from universities to rural areas, but also putting the community at the center of development.

"We women of the Compendium, we say that when we put the women leaders that we are from universities to rural, we always find the solution," said Ms. Yao, also Special Advisor to President Alassane Ouattara responsible for issues of the kind.

Continuing, she relied on the example in the field of water. "We have been awarded internationally because we have proposed a strategy that takes into account participation, decision, action and training" in the management of hydraulic pumps in rural areas.

"Each time we managed (...) We are 15,000 women in the Compendium. We want to generate networks according to our convictions. We will develop strategies such as when it came to enroll women on the electoral list, "said Euphrasia Kouassi Yao, expressing the availability of the Compendium to help improve the rate of births in the country .

"The IEC (Independent Electoral Commission) appealed to us and we solved the problem. In three weeks, we have reached 49% of women "registered on the electoral list, she continued adding that" we must trust the women leaders. Africa will get by. "
